Due to various problems with the 'free issue' materials, delays by preceding contractors and the late handover of areas, the subcontract was substantially delayed.
In order to mitigate some of the delays, John Young Ltd were instructed to implement acceleration measures. This was achieved by introducing the following measures:
- Additional resources were brought to site (labour, plant and supervision)
- Weekend working
- Implementation of 24 hour/3 shift working
In addition to the above, there were substantial changes to the pipework configuration which increased by a factor of 20. There was also a change in the weld-weight and small piece ratio of supplied materials necessitating a renegotiation of rates.
The final settlement to our client, some 12 months after contract completion, was in the region of £4,500,000 resulting in a successful financial outcome.
